2023 AFCON: Egypt Vs Mozambique Kick off, Possible Line ups and Where to Watch.

Seven-time African champions Egypt will start their 26th campaign of the Africa Cup of Nations against the Mambas of Mozambique at the Stade Felix Houphouet – Boigny on Sunday, January 14, 2024, in the Group B opener.

The Mambas of Mozambique come into the game as underdogs but the Egyptian Head Coach Rui Vitoria said how cautious his team is ahead of the game. He also said in the press conference ahead of the game that Mozambique is a good team and he knows them. Also, he disclosed his target at the conference.

After winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013, the Pharaohs of Egypt came close in 2022 but lost on penalty shootouts to Senegal.

“African Football has developed a lot, and there are no more small teams. Our group is tough because in addition to Ghana with all its stars, Mozambique and Cape Verde have many players in Europe and Portugal” Rui Vitoria said.

“I know them well, and I know they are also good teams. We have a good team. I can’t promise you the title, but I can tell you that we will do our best to play all seven matches in Ivory Coast” he said.

“Our main target is to win the Africa Cup of Nations title. I believe in my players and our work and every game will be like finals for us” Rui Vitoria added.

It will be the fourth time both teams are meeting in history. All three matches ended in a two-zero win for the Pharaohs of Egypt. Egypt and Mozambique have been drawn in the same for the fourth time in five Africa Cup of Nations appearances of Mozambique.

However, Egypt have lost just one game in their last nineteen Africa Cup of Nations group-stage matches and it was against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in 2021 by 1-0. Nigeria was unbeaten in that group but his eliminated in the quarter-finals by the Eagle of Carthage of Tunisia.

Mozambique finished fourth in their group in all their four Africa Cup of Nations appearances.
Mozambique lost ten and drew two in their last twelve matches in the Africa Cup of Nations also they had the least goal difference in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers (-1) among all the twenty-four participating nations in Ivory Coast.

The Pharaohs of Egypt are entering into the game with an unbeaten run in their last five games. They have won four and drew one. They have scored twelve and conceded one while Mozambique have won two, drew two, and lost one in their last five matches.
