“It’s very frustrating” – Chris Hughton after the draw with Egypt and Osman Bukari substitution – AFCON 2023.

Chris Hughton’s Black Stars of Ghana are winless after two matches played in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory. The Black Stars of Ghana are currently at the third position in Group B with just a point same as Mozambique who are bottom but Ghana is above on goals difference.

The Black Stars of Ghana were stunned on opening with a 2-1 defeat against the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde and a disappointing 2-2 draw with the Pharaohs of Egypt at the Stade Felix Houphouet – Boigny in North Abidjan.

After the 2-2 draw with Egypt yesterday, the Head Coach of Ghana, Chris Hughton expressed how frustrating it is for the team in the post-match conference. Also, he admitted that after the shocking loss to Cape Verde, they needed and better performance and they showed it yesterday against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

However, despite many people blaming Inaki Williams and Osman Bukari for the two scored by Egypt, Chris Hughton insisted he can’t fault any player for the draw because we are a team.

Moreover, he also said Osman Bukari was affected by the mistake he made and it was the reason he was subbed off just 13 minutes after coming on.

“It’s very frustrating. I felt we deserved to win the game. I asked the players after the Cape Verde; we needed a better performance and today they showed it. I can’t fault any player. The dressing room is very down” Chris Hughton said.

“Osman Bukari is a fabulous player. He has had a good season with his club and he is a player that we (the technical team) like as an individual and as a player.” Chris Hughton on Osman Bukari.

“We felt the mistake because it is an emotional game and we felt it affected him a little bit so we decided to make the change so this is nothing personal against anybody. He is a super player and he will continue to be.” He told 3sports.

In Group B, the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde are through to the round 16 of the Africa Cup of Nation after at 3-0 win over the Mambas of Mozambique earlier today. Interestingly, the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde are the first team to qualify for the knockout phrase of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

The last round of matches in Group will be played Thursday, January 25,2024 where the Black Stars of Ghana will take on the Mambas of Mozambique while the Pharaohs of Egypt will lock horns with high flying Cape Verde. Both matches will be played simultaneously in Abidjan.

For the Pharaohs of Egypt, a win over the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde will see them qualify for the round 16 with five points but for the Black Stars of Ghana, a win over the Mambas of Mozambique will give them high hopes of qualifying to the round 16 as one of the best performing third place teams.
