Accra Great Olympics defeated Accra Lions by 3-0 in the regional derby at the Accra Sports Stadium in the week 5 fixture of the Betpawa Premier League on Monday afternoon.
Accra Great Olympics, the home side broke the deadlock just ten minutes into the game through Michael Yeboah who pounced on a mistake from Baba Apilga to score from close range. Two after the goal, Michael Yeboah scored his second of the day after Daniel Afful’s save fell for him, and tapped in to make it 2-0 for the wonder club.
Midfielder Emmanuel Antwi made it three for Great Olympics after firing into the net after his initial free-kick went off the human wall in the 19th minute.
In the second half Accra Lions came in as a more improved side as compared to the first half, and created a lot of goal-scoring chances but the defense of Accra Great Olympics was resolute not to concede.
Following the victory, Accra Great Olympics claimed the top spot with a tie on points with Samartex FC and newly promoted Bofoakwa Tano but ahead with goal difference. For Accra Lions, they dropped to the 13th position with five points after five games played.
Next for Accra Great Olympics will travel to the Nana Agyemang Badu park in Dormaa where they will play quest to Aduana Football Club while Accra Lions host Real Tamale United at the Accra Sports Stadium.
