Ghanaian champions Medeama Sporting Club were defeated by American outfit DC United at the Audi Field Stadium in Washington by 2-1 in the Capital City Cup.
As part of the emerging champion for the first time in Ghana, the Ghana Football Association arranged the highly anticipated game.
Medeama Sporting Club started the game with Felix Kyei(GK), Kamaradini Mamudu, Fatawu Hamidu, Kofi Asmah, Nurudeen Abdulai, Baba Musah, Jean Vital, Azariah Fordjour; Theophilus Anoba, Jonathan Sowah and Kofi Babil.
After an entertaining first half, DC United was up by a goal to nil before the end of halftime. Five minutes in after the break, Nurudeen Abdulai restored parity for the Ghanaian champion to keep the game level.
In the 65th minute, Nigel Robertha restored DC United’s lead. The game continued to produce a lot of goal-scoring chances but neither of the team were able to utilize the chances created. The match ended 2-1 in favour of DC United.
After securing qualification to the CAF Champions League group stages, Medeama Sporting Club will return home and turn full focus to their outstanding Betpawa Premier League match day three fixture against the newly promoted Nations Football Club on Thursday, October 19 at the Akoon park in Tarkwa
