Match Report: Heart of Lions holds Asante Kotoko to a goalless draw.

Asante Kotoko starts the 2023/24 season with a goalless draw against premier league returnees Kpando Heart of Lions in Kumasi.

Both teams started the game well and evenly matched each other. The match was highly contested in the midfield but the Kotoko midfield with Sheriff Mohammed, Michael Kyei, and Shadarack Addo came out the better and created some decent goal-scoring chances but the defense of Heart of Lions was resolute not to concede.

Heart of Lions goalkeeper Osae was forced to make a crucial save in the 31st minute to deny Cameroonian Georges Mfegue for breaking the deadlock of the game but before that, Frederick Asare was called to action with a lovely diving safe to deny the visitors an early goal in the 29th minute.

The first department of the game ended 0-0 but with a lot of exciting midfield play.

Frederick Asare continued to make the difference with another crucial save in the 59th minute to keep the game deadlocked. Both teams couldn’t find the back of the net after 90+8 minutes.

Nurudeen Yusif impressive display at the back for Asante Kotoko earned him the Man Of The Match award on his debut after joining from Real Tamale United.

Next for Asante Kotoko is a journey to Bibiani where they will play quest to Bibiani Goldstars at Dun’s Park while Kpando Heart of Lions will play their first home game against Accra Great Olympics.
