A last-minute penalty save from the Hearts of Oak captain Richmond Ayi ensures a point at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium against Karela United in week 9 of the Betpawa Premier League.
The highly entertaining game was full of goal-scoring chances but eventually ended 1-1 with goals from Emmanuel Owusu Boakye and Hamza Issah for Karela United and Hearts of Oak respectively.
It took Karela United seven minutes to break the deadlock of the game through Emmanuel Owusu Boakye who was at the end of a long throw from former Hearts of Oak captain Fatawu Mohammed to make it 1-0.
Despite scoring early Karela United continued controlling the game after some exciting inter positional passes among themselves. After 15 minutes in the game, Hearts of Oak came into, settled, and controlled the game. They created numerous chances but the defense of Karela United was resolute not to concede.
With five minutes to end the first half, “Red Hot” Hamza Issah headed home to get Hearts of Oak’s equalizer after a delightful corner kick from Salifu Ibrahim which located Hamza Issah in the 18-yard box.
Back from recess, Karela United made their attacking intentions clear and created decent chances but the defense of Hearts of Oak stood up to deny them from scoring.
In the 50th minute, Richmond Ayi made a crucial save to deny Humin Mohammed’s header from scoring. Ayi who was exceptional all day made some fantastic saves to keep the game level.
Owusu Boakye who was a nightmare for Hearts of Oak won a penalty in the 81st minute but the kick was saved by Richmond Ayi to deny Evans Adomako from getting the winner for the home side.
