MTN FA CUP 2023/24: Asante Kotoko eliminates Nations FC in round 64.


Asante Kotoko humiliated Regional Rivals, Nations FC to secure a spot in the Round 32 of the MTN FA Cup in a six-goal thriller match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Ugandan forward Steven Dese Mukwala was unstoppable as he scored a brace and provided double assists for Asante Kotoko in their demolishing exercise. Asante Kotoko broke the deadlock just five minutes inside the game through Dese Mukwala who received pass from Isaac Oppong and strike with his weaker left foot to make it 1-0 for the Porcupine Warriors.

Seven minutes after the opener, Dese Mukwala set up Isaac Oppong after a nice dribble pass Nations FC right back Victor Oduro to locate Isaac who tapped in to double the lead for Asante Kotoko. Captain Richmond Lamptey made it three of the home side with a mice left footed strike from a pass from the Ugandan forward Steven Dese Mukwala.

Nations Football Club pulled one back through winger Nafiu Sulemana in the 30th minute to make it 3-1 in Kumasi. Halftime ended 3-1 in favor of the Porcupine Warriors.

Back from recess, Asante Kotoko continued attacking Nations Football Club who found it difficult to stop the Asante Kotoko attack. Asante Kotoko won a penalty just two inside the second half after a foul on Isaac Oppong in the 18yard which Steven Dese Mukwala Stepped up and sent goalkeeper Japheth Norvienyo the wrong way to complete his brace on the night.

In the 70th minute, Nations Football Club pulled another goal back through 67th minute substitute          Asamoah Boateng.

Next for Asante Kotoko is at home to Berekum Chelsea on Monday while Nations FC  will travel to play Accra Lions in the Betpawa Premier League.
