Bayern 04 Leverkusen attacking right back Jeremie Frimpong has cleared air on reports linking him to Ghana for a nationality switch from the Netherlands in an interview with Joy Sports.
The 22-year-old right-back expressed his happiness for making his debut with the Dutch senior national team. Jeremie made his debut against the blue of France in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Frimpong also admitted that he was approached by the technical handlers of the Black Stars over a nationality switch but his focus is on the Dutch national team.
“It was nice to finally make my debut. It was against France as well, so it was a nice game. I was really happy about it,” he said.
“Yes, the coach called me. I had a conversation with him but my mind was already made up,” he confirmed.
Asked if he occasionally watches Ghana’s games, the defender responded: “No, I just focus on the Netherlands.”
Jeremie Frimpong has been exceptional for the German Bundesliga side since joining from Scottish club Celtic in 2021. The Ghanaian-born defender has already won the Scottish League, Scottish League Cup, and Scottish Cup during his days with Celtic.
Jeremie has scored six goals and provided seven assists in all competitions for Bayern Leverkusen this season after eighteen matches. His impressive performances have gathered rumors linking him to the most successful club in the UEFA Champions League, Real Madrid ahead of the January transfer window.
Bayern Leverkusen are yet to taste a defeat this season in the Bundesliga under Xabi Alonso.
