OFFICIAL: Chris Hughton and his technical team are SACKED – 2023 AFCON.

The Ghana Football Association has officially dissolved the technical team of the Black Stars of Ghana headed by English-born Chris Hughton after suffering elimination from the group stages of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Ghana Football Association made an official announcement after the Black Stars of Ghana were officially eliminated when the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon defeated the Scorpions of Gambia by 3 goals to two.

Chris Hughton becomes the second coach to be sacked after Tom Saintfiet resigned from his position as the head coach of the Scorpions of Gambia.

The Ghana Football Association’s official statement on the sack of Chris Hughton: “The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior National team with immediate effect”.

 

“The Executive Council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.”

 

“The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars.”

 

Chris Hughton was named as the head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana after Otto Addo resigned from his position following group-stage elimination from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Chris Hughton was part of the technical team as a technical advisor and was part of the team when they eliminated the Super Eagles of Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup.

At the Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana was paired in Group B with the Pharaohs of Egypt, the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde and the Mambas of Mozambique. In the group, Ghana finished third with two points. They drew two matches and lost a game which was against the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde on opening day.
