We are not happy – Deputy Captain Richmond Lamptey on Asante Kotoko MTN FA Cup exit.

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club’s deputy captain Richmond Lamptey has penned down an emotional apology to the fans of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club after exiting the 2024 MTN FA Cup.

The nine-time MTN FA Cup champions Asante Kotoko Sporting Club was eliminated from the 2024 MTN FA Cup in round 16 by Karela United Football Club at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, Tamale. Karala United Football Club defeated Asante Kotoko Sporting Club by two goals to zero to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2024 MTN FA Cup tournament. Solomon Aboagye broke the deadlock early in the second half after a goalless first half before Giyasu Ibrahim made it two for Karela United.

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club’s poor run in the MTN FA Cup in recent years continues, for the past three seasons, Asante Kotoko Sporting Club’s best performance in the MTN FA Cup has been round 16. In the 2021/22 season, they were eliminated in round 64 by their city rivals King Faisal Babes Football Club who are currently in Division One. They were also eliminated in the round 16 by Aduana Football Club in the 2022/23 season.

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club deputy captain Richmond Lamptey captained the team due to the unavailability of their main captain Danlad Ibrahim who couldn’t make the matchday squad.

Next for Asante Kotoko Sporting Club is the JA Kuffour Cup against Nsoatreman Football Club on Sunday February 18,2024 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi before they start the second round of the Ghana Premier League 2023/24 season.
