MATCH PREVIEW: Karela United Vs Asante Kotoko – MTN FA CUP 2024

The second round of the 2023/24 football season in Ghana resumes on Monday, February 12 2024 at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, Tamale in the round 16 game of the MTN FA Cup between Karela United Football and nine-time champions Asante Kotoko Sporting Club.

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club and Karela United Football Club have already met once this season in the Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. That game ended in a draw after Baba Yahaya scored late to cancel Evans Adomako Wiredu formerly of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club’s early goal.

Road to round 16, Karela United Football Club defeated Access Bank Division One Side Steadfast Football Club and Kasalgu Arrow Heads Football Club in rounds 64 and 32 respectively. Moreover, Karela United Football Club scored eight goals and conceded two in those two games. Asante Kotoko Sporting Club on the other hand eliminated two Ghana Premier League clubs to reach the round 16. They started the 2023/24 MTN FA Cup campaign with a convincing win over Regional Rivals Nations Football Club at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium before their 1-0 narrow win over Bibiani Gold Stars Sporting Club at the Duns Park courtesy of teenage sensation Peter Acquah Amidu’s classic goal.

Karela United Football Club has appointed former Black Stars of Ghana goalkeeper Abukari Damba has been appointed as the club’s head coach on an interim basis after the resignation of Coach Shaibu Tanko. Coach Abukari Damba has been training with the team since last week following his appointment ahead of the big clash against Asante Kotoko Sporting Club.

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has been training for the past three weeks ahead of the game. Initially, the game was scheduled to be played on Sunday, February 18, 2024, but due to Asante Kotoko Sporting Club’s participation in the former Asante Kotoko Sporting Club Board Chairman and former President of Ghana His Excellency John Agyekum Kuffour which will be played on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi so the MTN FA Cup game has been rescheduled to Monday, February 12, 2024.

TEAM NEWS: Asante Kotoko will go into the game without Henry Ansu, Richmond Opoku, Dawuni Yahaya, Samuel Asamoah and Augustine Agyapong who are just recovering from injuries.

The match will kick off at 15:00GMT at Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale on Monday, February 12 2024.
