EXCLUSIVE: Three Libyan clubs are in a chase for Asante Kotoko playmaker.

Three top Libyan Clubs have shown keen interest in securing the signature of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club’s assistant captain Richmond Lamptey this summer, Becks Media Online can confirm that.

Richmond Lamptey has been performing consistently for Asante Kotoko Sporting Club since joining the team from Inter Allies Football Club ahead of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League.

His impressive performances earned him a place in Chris Hughton’s 27-man squad for the Black Stars of Ghana in the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. The four-time African Champions were in the group stages of the competition after accumulating just two points of the possible nine points.

Libyan side Al-Akhdar was the first team from the Libyan Premier League to officially write to Asante Kotoko Sporting Club for Richmond Lamptey for a fee of seventy thousand dollars but the offer was rejected by Asante Kotoko Sporting Club. The most prolific team in the Libyan Premier League, Al-Akhdar is currently second in the Libyan Premier League Group A with seventeen points after nine matches.

Also, AL Nasser the team which previously announced the signing of Jonathan Sowah from Medeama Sporting Club after Ghana’s exit from the Africa Cup of Nations has submitted their bid for the West African Football Academy graduate. As the proposed transfer fee remains undisclosed, Asante Kotoko Sporting Club is yet to respond to Al Nasser Sporting Club of Libya. They are currently first in Libyan Premier League Group A with twenty-one points after seventeen games. There is no agreement between both parties and the player as well.

Moreover, per media reports, Al Taawun has submitted an offer to Asante Kotoko Sporting Club for their left-footed maestro. Per reports, the Libyan side is willing to pay Richmond Lamptey seven thousand a month as salary but no agreement is reached between Al Taawun and Richmond Lamptey as well as Asante Kotoko Sporting Club.

It is mostly likely Richmond Lamptey, 26, will leave Asante Kotoko Sporting Club this summer. Richmond Lamptey has just four months left in his contract with Asante Kotoko Sporting Club and he is unlikely to extend his stay.

After signing for Asante Kotoko Sporting Club ahead of the 2021/22 season, He had a debut to remember after scoring his trademark long-range shot against Dreams Football Club in Asante Kotoko Sporting Club’s 3-1 comeback win at the Accra Sports Stadium. Also, he was pivotal for Asante Kotoko Sporting Club when they won their 26th Ghana Premier League title.

In the ongoing season, Richmond Lamptey has scored a goal and provided six assists in competitions for Asante Kotoko Sporting Club. His goal came against regional rivals Nations Football Club in the MTN FA Cup round 64 in the club’s 4-2 win.

Richmond Lamptey will join the Asante Kotoko Sporting Club training on Wednesday January 30,2024 ahead of thier MTN FA Cup round 16 game against Karela United Football Club at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
