Asante Kotoko to host ASEC Mimosas in the President’s Cup 2024 in Kumasi.

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club will host Ivorian Giants ASEC Mimosas at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on 5th March,2023 in honor of the President of Ghana His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo just a day before Ghana’s 67th Independence Anniversary.

Since the start of the President’s Cup, the game has been contested by two Ghanaian clubs to honor every elected President of Ghana and has been in existence for about two decades now. ASEC Mimosas will be the second foreign club to participate in the President’s Cup after TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Surprisingly, Defending Champions Hearts of Oak Sporting Club wasn’t selected for the highly anticipated match by the Ghana League Clubs Association. Hearts of Oak Sporting Club won by 1-0 against Asante Kotoko Sporting Club last season at the Accra Sports Stadium in a game that served as a league match and the President’s Cup as well under coach David Dickson Ocloo who is now the assistant coach of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club.

The President of Ghana His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo and the President of Ivory Coast His Excellency Alassane Ouattara will be at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

In the last two editions, Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has lost all to bitterest rivals Hearts of Oak Sporting Club at the Accra Sports Stadium. 2019 was the last time Asante Kotoko Sporting Club won their last President’s Cup title.

The President’s Cup is organized by the Ghana League Clubs Association every year in honor of the sitting President.

Happily, the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) announced a free gate ahead of the game later this year.

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club will hope to clinch their nine President’s Cup title. They are the most successful club since the inception of the President’s cup, winning eight and bitterest rival Hearts of Oak Sporting Club has also won six.
