GPL TRANSFERS: Asante Kotoko rejects an offer for Richmond Lamptey while Abdul Fatawu Safiu to face contract termination.

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has rejected Al Nasr Benghazi of Libya’s hundred thousand dollars for assistant captain Richmond Lamptey according to Kumasi-based radio station Silver FM.

According to Silver FM Kumasi, Asante Kotoko Sporting Club wants a much-improved offer than the proposed hundred thousand dollar deal due to the percentage Inter Allies Football Club will get out of Richmond Lamptey’s transfer.

Before joining Asante Kotoko Sporting Club ahead of the 2021/22 season, Asante Kotoko Sporting Club agreed to a forty percent signing-on fee with Inter Allies Football Club on Richmond Lamptey’s future sale. Richmond Lamptey, 26, had been impressive since joining the club. He had a great debut against Dreams Football Club in week one of the Ghana Premier League 2021/22 season.

As it stands, Richmond Lamptey is likely to leave Asante Kotoko Sporting Club in June when his contract expires.

However, Asante Kotoko Sporting Club is considering contract termination with forward Abdul Fatawu Safiu who joined the team weeks ago. Per reports, Abdul Fatawu Safiu was having a knee injury and after taking scans by the Asante Kotoko Sporting Club medical team, it was revealed. There hasn’t been any official communication to terminate the 29-year-old experienced striker contract.

Abdul Fatawu Safiu joined Asante Kotoko Sporting Club ahead of the second round of the Ghana Premier League 2023/24 season on a year contract with an option of another year. As we await the final decision from Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, Abdul Fatawu Safiu met the Interim Management Committee of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club to talk about his future.

Moreover, Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has been handed a major boost ahead resumption of the league with the return of some players from injury. Henry Ansu who picked up an injury in Asante Kotoko Sporting Club’s last league game of the first round at the Coronation Park in Sunyani against Bofoakwa Tano Football Club has made a return and has been at the Gym since Asante Kotoko Sporting Club’s return to training ahead of the second round.

Also, youngster Richmond Opoku and Bernard Somuah Sarpong alongside Dawuni Yahaya have returned to full training sessions with the team as the team prepares to face Karela United Football Club at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale later this month in the MTN FA Cup round 16.

Young goalkeeper Fatao Seidu has joined division one side Future Stars Football Club till the end of the season to search for playing. The talented joined Asante Kotoko Sporting Club ahead of the 2023/24 season from PAC Academy and is yet to make his debut for the Porcupine Warriors.

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club will continue training at the Adako Jachie Training Complex ahead of their MTN FA Cup hurdle against Karela United Football Club in Tamale on Sunday, February 18, 2024, with kick-off at 15:00GMT before their league game against Kpando Heart of Lions Football Club Limited at the Hohoe Sports Stadium. The first leg between them ended goalless at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi.
