GPL TRANSFERS: Medeama Sporting Club has announced two signings and departures ahead of the second round.

Defending champions Medeama Sporting Club has announced two new signings and departures ahead of the second round of the Ghana Premier League 2023/24 season.

In the second transfer window, Medeama Sporting Club has already announced five signings’ namely; Michael Enu formerly of Bibiani Gold Stars Sporting Club, former Fatawu Sulemana, Burkinabe forward Sidibe Ben Daouda from RC Kadiogo, 2020/21 Ghana Premier League top scorer Diawiasie Taylor and center back Kwaku Osei.

Also, Medeama Sporting Club parted ways with experienced defender Richard Akrofi after nine months of joining from Nsoatreman Football Club and midfielder Agyei Boakye.

However, Medeama Sporting Club has announced two new signings. With the injury of Nurudeen Abdulai, Medeama Sporting Club has defender Kobina Amoah for the next three seasons. The inclusion of Kobina Amoah will be the second center-back who joined the team in the second transfer window after Kwaku Osei. The 22-year-old joined from Division One side Golden Kicks Football Club.

The signing is expected to bring tough competition in the center-back role at Medeama Sporting Club and help the team strengthen their defense in the second round of the Ghana Premier League and their remaining matches in the Total Energies CAF Champions League games against Al Ahly of Egypt at home and CR Beloiuzdad of Algeria away respectively. Kobina previously played for Jerusalem U19 and Al Hilal United in UAE.

Explosive winger Denis Adoma from Division Two Ada City Football Club. The goal-scoring winger has already made his debut for Medeama Sporting Club in their Ghana Premier League outstanding game against Kpando Hearts of Lions Football Club Limited at the Hohoe Sports Stadium.

Moreover, Medeama Sporting Club has confirmed the departure of their star man Jonathan Sowah who has joined Libyan side Al Nasser Benghazi on a fee of around 500k dollars for the next two years. The 24-year-old striker was part of Ghana’s 27-man squad for the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations which is currently ongoing in Ivory Coast.

In his debut season, Jonathan Sowah scored nineteen goals in thirty-five matches for Medeama Sporting Club and has scored seven goals in the ongoing Ghana Premier League in the first round. Jonathan Sowah has also scored three goals in the CAF Champions League. Sowah recently made his competitive debut for the Black Stars during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifications against Comoros.

Also, Zimbabwean winger Kudakwashe Mahachi has parted ways by mutual consent. Kuda Mahachi has struggled to have playing time since joining the club in August 2023 due to injury. The former Mamelodi Sundowns winger played forty-four matches for the Zimbabwe national team and scored five goals.

 

After suffering elimination from the MTN FA Cup against Skyy Football Club, Medeama Sporting Club will start their second-round campaign at Al Ahly at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi in round five of the Total Energies CAF Champions League group stages on 26th February 2024 before they return to Ghana Premier League action against Aduana Football Club at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa.
